FAQ

We are always meeting people who have questions about who we are and what we do in our community. If there is a question we haven’t answered below, please feel free to contact us.

What exactly is a guild?
You can find many definitions online but they all sum up to saying that they are an association of people with common interests or aims. Many guilds, such as ours, fundraise for charity or worthwhile causes.

Who is the Hansje Brinker Guild?
The Hansje Brinker Guild was founded in 2007 by a small group of Dutch women who live in the greater Seattle area. Our mission is to celebrate and share our Dutch heritage and culture through events and give back to our community. We now have more than 10 active members who have strong ties to both The Netherlands and Seattle.

Who benefits from your fundraisers?
All proceeds from our events or fundraising actions are donated to the Child Life Department at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Donations made through our website are also transferred to the hospital.

Are you officially affiliated with Seattle Children’s?
Yes, we are part of the Seattle Children’s Hospital Guild Association. This association is the largest all-volunteer fundraising network for any hospital in the nation. They serve as the umbrella organization for all their guilds, and support our efforts by providing inspiration, fundraising advice, and resources.

What is the Child Life Department?
The Child Life Department helps make a family’s experience at the hospital a positive one. Child Life specialists are members of the child’s healthcare team. Services offered include an inpatient playroom, teen zone, sibling playroom, animal assisted activities, and music and art as a form of therapy.

How can I help?
Our events are open to everyone in the community, so please come along and invite your friends and family too! If we currently do not have an event running, you are certainly welcome to make a monetary donation to the guild or support the hospital in these other ways.

Do you ever need volunteers?
Yes! When we have a large event, such as King’s Day, we need plenty of volunteers to make the day run smoothly. Please check under the specific event information on how you can volunteer.

When is your next event?
We are organizing a movie night on March 2nd and King’s Day on April 29th, 2017.

I see events advertised from the Hansje Brinker Guild, Dutch Seattle, and the Holland America Club of the Pacific Northwest; are you all the same group?
We are our own, independent, organization. It is not uncommon to see members of one group also serve in other groups or volunteer to support each other. We all work hard to make sure our culture and traditions are celebrated in our community no matter who is hosting.

Does the Hansje Brinker Guild have a tax ID?
We do. It is Tax ID #: 26-1561959
